The car ride back to our hotel was very very long. I remember dozing off and waking up so many times, and still we weren't close to our hotel. I never knew Bali was so big, and that there were so many things to do there. Next time if I ever want to climb mount batur again, i'd probably stay near Ubud and switch hotels if i wanna go elsewhere.
After a little rest, we set off to Uluwatu. We took a cab to the Uluwatu temple, which is at a really secluded area. The taxi driver said it was difficult to get cabs in there, so he offered to wait for us and we agreed. The view of the temple was not bad, but it wasn't as spectacular as I'd imagined. I think i might have been a little bit too tired to enjoy myself too. If I didn't remember wrongly, there is probably another cliff top temple which is more famous in Bali.
One of the most famous 'attraction' at the temple was the plentiful monkeys that lived around the temple. I used to stay near bukit timah hill, where monkeys were a common sight and they even came into our house sometimes. But they cannot be compared to the monkeys at the temple! I've read that the monkeys there were rather aggressive, and would 'steal', but little did i expect to see it happen for myself! The monkeys crept up behind unsuspecting tourists taking photos, and grabbed their shades skillfully. It happened to more than one tourist when we were there! So I was quite scared when we were taking photos, and we took extra precaution to keep our shades somewhere safe. There were some staff who helped shoo the monkeys a little, and retrieve stolen stuff. They fed the monkeys in exchange for the stuff, which is precisely why the monkeys keep doing it.
The uluwatu temple was a good spot for watching the sunset, so many tourists were arriving there just before sunset.
Oh yes, as it was a religous place, all visitors had to wear sarongs. I'm not sure why some of them like the man behind us could simply tie it around their waist though.
Instead of staying at uluwatu temple for the sunset, I wanted to catch the sunset at jimbaran bay. So we left pretty quickly (it wasn't that interesting there anyway). There was a jam along the way so I was quite worried we wouldn't make it in time. Should have factored in more time. The taxi driver dropped us at the back of a particular restaurant, and we were swiftly led in. I guess the restaurant has some sort of arrangement with taxi drivers so that they'd direct tourists there! This is where we had our dinner. There was a long stretch of restaurants along the beach, with all the chairs facing the sea.
Xinyi told me the corn on the cob that were being sold on the beach was a must try. So I went straight to get one after we ordered our food! And indeed, it didn't disappoint. I liked it so much I took so many photos with it -_- I love this photo and it would have made good profile picture, if not for the corn haha.
Another one with the corn. We should have taken photos before buying the corn! But anyways, it was really nice la. Even Jeremy who doesn't like corn thought it was nice. And i bought another back when we left. heh.
Food at the restaurant was not fantastic, but was edible I guess. The worst part was THERE WAS NO SUNSET! I mean, the sun did set but we didn't get a good view 'cause it was too cloudy. Again. Boooooo :( I was really disappointed, but well it was still pretty nice having dinner by the beach.
