Kombi Rocks
I read about this cafe from a blog not long ago, and since kaycee and i were gonna be in the area one day, we decided to drop by!
Apparently the cute vintage volkswagen mini bus/van (the one on the sign) is called a Kombi! It's one of the cutest vehicles around! Always see them on tumblr in pretty pictures and dream of having one and driving it around some nice foreign land. With a few good friends maybe, and a golden retriever sitting in the front passenger's seat just next to me (:
At first glance, this cafe may not seem very special or attractive. In fact it appears to be pretty messy and cluttered. But after you sit down and look around, you start noticing all the nice random things all around.
Most of the decor and furniture there were vintage! I wonder if these items like the refrigerators and chairs previously belonged to the owner. That would make the cafe even more special ya? Anyway the tables and chairs in the cafe weren't coordinated, there were different sets of vintagey furniture, and each table had its own feel.
It was a rather gloomy day, drizzling just before we reached. So i was in the mood for a little pot of tea. It was honey dew green tea, pretty nice with a fruity taste. But towards the last bit of pot it got a little too bitter.
I would expect a cafe like that with a very western vintage feel to serve western food, but it actually served chinese and thai food. Not a huge variety though.
I kinda wanted to try the tom yum vermicelli, but i was feeling really hungry and my mum always says it's not good to eat sour and spicy stuff or tang hoon when one's too hungry, i thought this two added together must be pretty bad for the tummy. So I ordered something safe. Too safe in fact. The seafood kway teow soup. The kway teow had nice texture, and fish was fresh, but the soup was sooooo bland i had to add soya sauce and pepper to make it a little better. Well if felt really healthy though, so if you're looking for something healthy i guess you can pick this.
Kaycee had beef hor fun which he said was not too bad. I ordered thai fish cake too, and I was lucky it happened to be a special discounted dish on Tuesdays! Half price. :D It was okay, but a bit too burnt I think. It didn't come with thai chilli sauce like i expected, so we just ate it with this chilli sauce that was on the table. Tasted not too bad anyway.

I've always dreamt of driving a vespa too! Haha okay maybe all girls do, since vespas are so cute and classy. Doesn't look as difficult to ride as a motorcycle too. I didn't dare to sit on this one as kaycee suggested though.

Two prawns that I fished during our prawning session last week! Look at the difference in size! And I feel bad for saying this, but the prawns were really yummy. Oh gawd I'm evil. :\ Sorry prawnies :(
