Cheerleading World Championships Day 1! [Bremen Day 4]
Competition Day 1 finally came! Here's us with the koreans waiting to report for the competition :)
Every competitor has to flash this chop we have on our arm when asked to. No idea why it says 'senior'. It's probably just some random chop. I can't really remember the sequence of events (that's what happens when you take too long to blog), but I think we had a rehearsal that day at the competition area in the morning, also for the judges to check if our stunts are legal. If i'm not wrong we managed to get ASU :)

After that xuewei and I headed to the make up room to make up!

Russian cheerleader in the same make up room!

Done!

We had to attend an opening ceremony rehearsal after that. A self shot taken with zhaoming's zai camera while waiting haha.

Team Singapore :)

With our german liaison Lianne!

It's the first time all the cheerleaders from every country gathered together so it was pretty cool!

With the slovenians who were always very high. Singing songs and cheering cheers. Like the orientation kind. Haha.

With the austrians! Matching colours.

The russian and singapore contingents!

With our singapore sign :]

And the flag!

Proud to represent Singapore! Hee.

With the bambis! A team from Japan made up of young girlies. They're really good! They're all girls and so young, but i'd say they're better than lotsa squads in Singapore!

After the opening ceremony we managed to grab some photos with the Japanese!

Japanese bases!

Flyers! Mochi and friend! :) They gave us the Japan Cheerleading hanky as souvenirs. Too bad we had nothing for them.

Members of the Japanese all girls team! I think the taller girl is really pretty! And she's a super zai base!

Here's our lunch pack! 6 Euros. With two buns, an apple and orange juice.

A photo with the hongkong boys!

While waiting for the real opening ceremony to start, we started taking photos again :)

Singaporean cheerleaders' favourite hobby. Stunt photos!

Heh interestingly other cheerleaders seemed very amazed and started snapping photos of us. I guess they don't have the habit of doing stunts at random places heh.

Norwegian cheerleaders asked for us to take cupie photos together :) Actually I should have done with the norwegian base and the flyer should have done with kelvin hor. More fun heh.

Braves coach! He's so young, 28 only i think? Amazing how he managed to train up such a fantastic team.

Xingwei and kelvin with two very cute russians who asked them to act strong! Hehe.

We were the earliest team to arrive at the area where we were supposed to gather, so someone suggested we go take photos with every single flag! Haha lame but we had fun running down the row and posing with all the flags and signs :P We didn't take a photo with our OWN flag and sign though 'cause we already did earlier.. it proved to be a mistake! Just before we went in for the opening ceremony we realised our flag couldn't be opened. :( Shan't dwell too much on what happened 'cause it's rather depressing.

Catching a photo with the beauty bears! It was very funny 'cause they were trying to keep up with the rest of the Japanese team and take a photo with us at the same time. Hence the blurry photo. So anyways, after the opening ceremony it was time to compete! I was super uber nervous before our turn, watching the teams before us compete and seeing the many many spectators. It suddenly dawned on me that we were competing at a world championships and omg that's freaking scary.
So then came our turn and all our stunts kind of went up except double cupie. Kind of went up 'cause they weren't exactly done very nicely like my arabesque was super low and I didn't manage to straight away pull my bow and arrow etc etc. I didn't feel too horrible after that routine though 'cause I was kinda relieved that at least the other stunts didn't fail. I think my confidence level was so low that day that I expected it to be worse =X
Straight after we performed the routine, we waited at this area for our score which would be flashed on the big screem. Reminds of me gymnastics competitions I used to watch on tv where the gymnasts did something like that too! And they'd be very nervous while waiting for the judges to flash their score. So cool that we got to experience that too.
I think we were all pretty surprised when we saw our score - 93.5. Think it was not too bad!
Here're the scores of the 7 groups that participated. We were right in the middle at fourth place after the first day!
After we competed we headed up to the stands to watch the other teams perform.
The bambis had their names embroidered on their team jackets! I also want!
Japan mixed team showing their support for the all girls team!

It was great watching all the countries perform. First time watching the Europeans cheerleaders and they all seem to have a certain style different from the Asians. Japan was unbelievable as usual, thailand's routine seemed less thai this time, china put up an amazing performance despite being one man down, and for taipei it was just such a pity... :(
Some girls asking us for a picture outside the stadium! :)

We were pleasantly surprised when some girls asked for our autographs as we were walking back towards our hotel! Our first fans! Haha. :P

I love this photo!
The girls are all cheerleaders too, and I really hope that in someway or another we managed to inspire them to achieve much more in cheer! Think they're so lucky they got exposed to this fantastic sport at such a young age :)
We had dinner at a nearby restaurant. Unfortunately the menu was totally incomprehensible, the food was really expensive, and we felt like the guy working there was trying to cheat us. But luckily the food that we ordered was not too bad!
Yay just two more entries to finish blogging about Bremen! Expect lots and lots of photos in the next post!
